‘Data recovery near me’ — the Scottish answer.

Looking in Fife, the Central Belt, the North East or the Borders, the nearest serious recovery bench is likely to be the same one: South Gyle, Edinburgh. Since failed hard drives are delivered safely via insured post, 'near' means 'can be reached by tomorrow's post', which includes all towns listed below.

// how distance works

Why the postcode barely matters.

The geographical aspect is virtually irrelevant when it comes to data recovery, as the device travels (not you). The same timelines apply. For example, a customer posting a drive via insured post from Inverness on a Monday can have the drive under diagnosis in our office in Edinburgh on Tuesday and receive a quotation by Wednesday: the exact same timeline that would be applicable for a walk-in at Leith, except for a one-day delay due to Royal Mail. All jobs will receive a complimentary diagnostic evaluation, a fixed written quotation and the same terms of service, where in most cases you only pay if we recover your data. The only local difference is whether you fancy the trip. If you are in Edinburgh, the Lothians or elsewhere within commuting distance, you also have an alternative method of delivery using the South Gyle drop-off facility (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5:30pm). To take advantage of this feature, simply get a quote first, prior to delivering your drive, by either phoning us or completing the quote form, and no appointment is required.

// across scotland

Data recovery for the whole country.

For many users looking for data recovery in Scotland, that typically means expecting to send a drive to London and wait up to a week. It doesn't have to be that way. This is a complete data recovery Scotland service from a single bench in South Gyle, west Edinburgh, covering anything from a single bad laptop hard drive through to a corrupted twelve-bay server, with the drive never having to leave the country. That matters more than it may seem: many large national companies quietly send your disk to a third-party laboratory, sometimes abroad, where again this will add further delay, more hands and also more risk. Here all the work remains in-house using our own equipment at our own premises, under fully secure conditions. Wherever you're based in Scotland, whether it's as a photographer in the Highlands, an accountant in the Borders or as an engineering company in Aberdeen, the exact same level of advanced data recovery Scotland relies on is just a next-day insured parcel away. The free diagnostics, the fixed written quote and the terms (in most cases you only pay if we recover your data) remain exactly the same no matter where in Scotland you're located.

// every failure, from anywhere

Whatever the device, wherever you are.

The full range of devices can travel (and be recovered) just like one drive. A failed or clicking hard drive; a solid-state disk that suddenly disappeared overnight; a RAID or NAS system in the middle of a rebuild; a broken, snapped or otherwise unusable USB stick or memory card: they all have a drop-off in South Gyle, and they reach it by the same route no matter where in Scotland you're coming from. So if you are unsure whether your case is worth posting in, then the easy answer is usually determined by a quick telephone conversation. Tell us what went wrong, and we will let you know whether recovering your lost data is simply a matter of us making the repair (or performing the recovery), doing some mechanical work on our bench, or whether restoring from your current backup would resolve this problem completely free of charge. First complete our free diagnostic process or review the actual cost of recovering your data prior to committing to anything.

// questions

Sending it in from across Scotland, answered.

No, most of our Scotland-wide customers never set foot in Edinburgh. First get a quote via the website (with the quote form) or over the telephone. After that, a failed drive can be sent by fully insured courier or Royal Mail Special Delivery, and will be on our bench for diagnosis the next working day. If you're based in Edinburgh, the Lothians or somewhere that is a short drive away, then you may like to take advantage of dropping off at 4 Redheughs Rigg Westpoint, South Gyle, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5:30pm, with no appointment needed. This is an option for those who wish to do so.

Put the bare drive into an anti-static bag if you have one (the bag a new drive came in is ideal) and then put lots of padding around it to prevent movement within a box. You can use bubble wrap, foam or even crumpled paper for the padding, against all six sides. Make sure there are no bare drives that could shake loose. Once you get a quote, either via telephone call or filling out our quote form, package the item and send it by an insured, trackable method (Royal Mail Special Delivery or a courier) and include a note inside the packaging with your name and contact details so we can book it in once it arrives. If you would prefer a checklist, our downloadable shipping form provides a complete list of what needs to be included.

No. Your quote will be based solely upon the device that has failed and the nature of the failure itself; it will never depend upon your location. We would give the exact same quote for a drive posted from Inverness, Aberdeen or the Borders as for one walked in from Leith. We do a completely free diagnostic on all devices. We charge an agreed fixed price, and in most cases you only pay if we recover your data. The only difference distance may make to you is a day of postage at either end.

Add a day or two of extra time for travel at each end; otherwise, your recovery process will remain the same regardless of where you live in Scotland. When a standard job is posted on Monday from the Highlands or the Western Isles, there will normally be a diagnosis under way by mid-week, with a quote issued very soon thereafter. If a case is truly urgent, we can give it priority: just let us know this when you make contact and we'll tell you honestly if something like that is feasible.

All of it. This is one of very few Scotland data recovery services that are operated out of just one workbench: Edinburgh and the Lothians, Fife, the Borders, Tayside, the North East, the Highlands and the islands all come to us in the same manner. The only region we don’t serve directly is Glasgow and the surrounding west, as there we have an associated laboratory serving that area; otherwise, this is your best bet.

If you are anywhere in Scotland, virtually yes: there is one specialist firm in Edinburgh that can be visited or have your drive sent to it via an insured next-working-day postal service. What is of greater importance than the distance travelled is what occurs from hand-over: all our services remain in-house on a single bench, as opposed to your drive going to an external laboratory you had no choice over.

Glasgow & the West? Sister lab.

One honest signpost: for Glasgow and surrounding areas, our sister service covers the West of Scotland. This laboratory services every other area of Scotland, whether on an island or in a remote glen or postcode: call 0131 202 0491.
